WordPress.com Launch

This follows on from my recent post about the demo of WordPress 1.6 at the Business Blog Summit. It was also a demo of WordPress.com, which is running 1.6 and WordPress Multi-User.

I want to highlight three comments on the launch of WordPress.com. Monkeypup bursts with enthusiasm.

The first thing you notice in the new version of Wordpress is the post writing interface… This is only one aspect, though, in what appears to be Wordpress’ master plan to take over the internet. Once you make the interface easy, you need to make the damn thing accesible… And that, my friends, is where wordpress.com comes in… the .com site, recently registered, will soon provide free webhosting using wordpress… Making wordpress user friendly and available will rocket its popularity through the stratosphere.

On the other hand, Robert fears that the way in which WordPress.com is being launched is clumsy, in ways that will hurt, rather than help, the WordPress cause.

Then there’s a post from Lorelle at her WordPress.com blog. It’s wonderfully clear and informative, as many WordPressers have come to expect from Lorelle. She’s made many fine contributions to WordPress.org; it’s great to see her getting, and using, one of the first WordPress.com invites.

Having so far stressed the differences between the three posts, I want to comment on what they have in common. Each of these accounts of the WordPress.com launch shows the strong commitment in the WordPress community.

Thanks for posting my comments. Nice to see WP get so much attention. It sure deserves it!

Wow. Thanks for the kind words. I do my best to help WordPress users as so many helped me out when I first got started.

WordPressMU sites like wordpress.com are very exciting and I think that they will help to change the face of the web and blogging in many ways.
